Photography Club

This club operates twice weekly for beginners as well as the more experienced. It has been managed by G. Fox and D. Happy.

Boys have received instruction on developing and printing black and white photographs, together with advice and demonstrations of how to use a camera and take specialist photographs, e.g. portraits, still life etc. The club has purchased new equipment, thus depleting its funds. A Grand Day exhibition was mounted for the second year running, showing various aspects of the club's work. A profitable business was made on Grand Day by selling family portraits.

Sailing

The sailing season was satisfactory, both with regard to the improvement made in individual skills and the condition of the boats sailed. This year we entered four dinghies, two fireflies and mirrors, all in the Kent Schools' Regatta held at the Downs Sailing Club, Walmer. The course used was the same as that used later in the season for the English Schools' Regatta. Although we produced no individual winners, our crews acquitted themselves well and enjoyed their three races in the open sea with strong tides running. Some idea of the standard of the opposition can be gauged from the fact that several of the K.S.S.A. winners also won their classes in the English Schools' Regatta.

In adverse conditions, our boys also sailed four dinghies in the Cinque Ports Y.C. "Courroie Sans Fin". Only one of our crew lasted the race out. This was a feat for which they are to be congratulated. The others greatly increased their knowledge and experience of rough weather sailing and remained cheerful despite several capsizes and soakings. As usual, we have some boys who have achieved R.Y.A. Intermediate and elementary sailing awards.

Our first kit built Enterprise dinghy took to the water this year and proved an exciting boat to sail. We now have a quality racer which will allow our boys to compete on equal terms with other young sailors in Kent.
